Matthew has played many positions including striker and midfielder. He has been playing left back very effectively since being moved to that position. Matt is a natural left footer with great range, accuracy, touch and also has developed his right foot to almost the same level. Matt is 5’11" and is only 15 (sophomore; Class of 2011) and is still growing in skill, size, weight and strength. He is agressive on 50/50 balls and is quite capable of heading the ball to his teammates. He was honored as "Rookie of the Year" at West Ashley High and has played on SC’s ODP Teams for a number of years. He is a natural athlete and had to choose between soccer and baseball. He was a starter for our local AAU baseball team that came in 4th place in the World Series played in Louisvile, Ky. 2/3 years ago. His passion for soccer helped him make a difficult choice, but he’s now solely committing his time to the pitch.
He has a lot of potential and natural ability that is really accelerating on the BridgeFA/ US Soccer Development Academy Team. Coaches Clark Brisson and Collin Phillips are excellent teachers and coaches of the game. Because he is a ’93 he will be playing with the U15/16’s again next year.
